BREADCRUMB, ROSETTA, CHORIZO and ZeroWASTE to Join Forces in Bilbao at Food4Future 2025

On May 13, four leading European projects — BREADCRUMB, ROSETTA, CHORIZO, and ZeroWASTE — will come together at Food4Future World Summit in Bilbao to take part in the session “Zero Waste: obligations and opportunities in the food chain.”

This joint session, held within one of Europe’s top innovation events for the food industry, will spotlight coordinated efforts to prevent food loss and waste, while exploring synergies between EU-funded initiatives working across different stages of the food value chain.

 

About the event: Food4Future World Summit

Food4Future is a leading international platform for professionals, companies, and institutions committed to transforming the food industry through innovation, sustainability, and digitalisation. Taking place in Bilbao (Spain), the 2025 edition brings together key stakeholders to explore new technologies, policy directions, and business models shaping the future of food.

As part of the agenda, the dedicated session on zero food waste will serve as a spotlight moment for sharing strategies, tools, and policy-relevant findings from four major Horizon Europe projects.

 

 A session dedicated to joint action

Scheduled from 12:00 to 13:00 on May 13, the session will begin with a presentation by Helena de Miguel Santoyo from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), who will introduce Spain’s national strategy in the fight against food waste.

Moderated by Eduardo Cotillas (R&D Director at FIAB), the session will feature presentations from four Horizon Europe projects, each tackling food waste from a distinct angle:

 

BREADCRUMB

Presentation: “The impact of marketing standards on the generation of food waste”
Speaker: María Miranda (ANECOOP))
BREADCRUMB will explore how marketing standards can unintentionally drive food waste, especially during the production phase, and how these can be reimagined to support sustainability​.

CHORIZO

Presentation: “Changing practices and habits through Open, Responsible, and social Innovation towards ZerΟ food waste”
Speaker: Irene González
The CHORIZO project will focus on leveraging behavioural science and social innovation to reshape food habits and reduce waste.

ROSETTA

Presentation: “Reduce food waste in the distribution chain”
Speaker: Lluis Puig (Freshis)
ROSETTA will showcase tools and best practices for minimising food waste in the distribution stage, bringing digital solutions and data into the spotlight.

ZeroWASTE

Presentation: “Systemic Innovations Towards a Zero Food Waste Supply Chain”
Speaker: Alejandro Fernández  (Grupo La Caña)
This presentation will highlight cross-sectoral innovations and systemic approaches aimed at achieving a truly zero-waste supply chain.

A shared commitment for a waste-free food system

This collaborative session reflects a strong, shared commitment across EU-funded projects to reduce food waste holistically — from farm to fork. By coming together at Food4Future, BREADCRUMB, ROSETTA, CHORIZO, and ZeroWASTE will not only present their findings, but also foster connections that can drive meaningful impact.
