Researchers and Entrepreneurs come together to assemble an Inventory of Food Marketing Standards in the EU

Specialists in food, agriculture, food production and distribution unite with researchers to create an Inventory of existing Food Marketing Standards in the EU.The Inventory covers food marketing standards for five food commodities: fruits & vegetables, meat (bovine, pork and poultry), eggs, fish and cereals throughout the supply chain from primary production to consumption. Led by VLTNa green supply chain and logistics, innovation and consultancy SME, the initiative brings together researchers and domain specialists from 20 BREADCRUMB consortium partners to identify and analyse these standards.

The inventory will provide a detailed catalogue of food marketing standards, in particular focusing on the five food commodity categories. Included in the information provided about the each identified standard is the name, description of the standard, its geographical scope (coverage), and the applicable supply chain stage(s). It also examines the nature of the entities responsible for creating these standards, which range from government agencies and international bodies to individual companies, non-governmental organizations, industry associations, and retailers, and explores the potential connection between these standards and food waste generation.

The ultimate goal of the inventory is to facilitate a holistic understanding of existing food marketing standards in the EU, and their interrelations, and to identify those most relevant to food waste. This inventory will serve as the foundation for a more in-depth analysis of the origin and purpose of the standards, the relationships between existing standards, as well as the relationship of those standards with food waste.
